In conjunction with North Ayrshire Council and Peter Drummond Architects Conservation Masonry have undertaken cleaning and restoration works to two monuments in Ayrshire, one at MacFadzean Monument in Ardrossan and one at the Bonnie Leslie Monument in Stevenston. Both required to be cleaned using the DOFF low pressure steam system, stone indents undertaken and the joints raked out and re-pointed breathing new life into somewhat dilapidated but important historic structures.
Originally erected in 1784 by Robert Baillie as a memorial to his wife, with the death of his daughter Lesley and the addition of her name it came to be known as the Bonnie Lesley Baillie Memorial after Robert Burns called her “The most beautiful, elegant woman in the world”. |
