Arran

In March 2017 Conservation Masonry commenced the restoration of the ruined 14th Century chapel on the outskirts of Lamlash on the Island of Arran, the structure had not only lapsed in to a ruin but the stonework forming the main wall structure had become intertwined with vegetation, roots and in several places full grown tree structures.
In conjunction with North Ayrshire council as the client, Historic Environment Scotland, a resident archaeologist and the architectural practice Robert Potter & Partners over 22 weeks Conservation Masonry removed the intertwined vegetation with minimal disruption to the historic walling and memorial stones, filled and re-pointed the joints and topped the structure with a turf topping built up off the original wallhead.
