Alloway

At Conservation Masonry it isn’t just the castles, cathedrals, churches, stately homes, universities and protected trust properties we consider to be the most iconic and prestigious we execute our skills upon.

Being awarded directly by the National Trust of Scotland the main contract for the complete restoration of Burns cottage in Alloway, for such a small property, was certainly one of our most prestigious contracts of 2020. Robert Burns was born and lived until age 7 at this property and it is considered by most a Scottish national treasure with more than 100,000 visitors per year. Conservation Masonry were thrilled to again work alongside the National Trust of Scotland to help repair, restore and in parts reconstruct this little gem back to its original glory.

Our contract consisted of the specialist and highly skilled rethatching of the roof, supplying, carving and building natural stone to match existing, applying specialist lime wash to match existing and a general overhaul of woodwork and ironmongery. As a team Conservation masonry, national trust, and specialist conservation architects pulled this project in on time and budget and were able to let the public revisit and enjoy this iconic little gem in Ayrshire
